Health Committee to Begin Regional Tour of Facilities Across the Country

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Health, has announced plans to embark on a four-day tour of Regional and Teaching Hospitals across the country beginning on Tuesday, April 22, to Friday, April 25 to evaluate the current status of the various healthcare institutions in order to identify challenges and propose strategies that can be worked on to enhance healthcare delivery in Ghana. This planned tour when embarked upon, would make the Health Committee one of the busiest select committees that have undertaken one activity after the other during the recess period of Parliament joining other committees including Sanitation and Water Resources, and Trade, Industry and Tourism Committees.

According to a statement issued Thursday by the Media Relations Directorate of Parliament, the tour which is part of the Health Committee’s parliamentary oversight and aligned with its overarching objective to promote and ensure quality healthcare delivery to Ghanaians, will offer the Members an opportunity to gain first-hand understanding of the challenges bedeviling the nation’s facilities. They will also interact with health practitioners in the facilities and receive accounts of the operational difficulties encountered in their delivery of healthcare to patients who visit them.

The 17-Member Health Committee has been divided into three teams to enable them cover a total of 15 medical facilities comprising Regional and Teaching Hospitals across the country. Team one will visit the following health facilities; Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, Nalerigu Regional Hospital, Tamale Teaching Hospital, Tamale Regional Hospital, and Wa Regional Hospital.

Meanwhile in team two, Members expect to tour Damongo Regional Hospital, Techiman Regional Hospital, Sunyani Regional Hospital, and Goaso Regional Hospital. Team three therefore will cover Kumasi Regional Hospital. Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Koforidua Regional Hospital, Ho Regional Hospital, Ho Teaching Hospital, and the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.
