Tullow Oil Ghana Limited and its partners at the Jubilee Oil Field in the Gulf of Guinea’s Tano Basin south of Ghana have announced their decision to restart drilling operations in the enclave this month after a temporary pause in operations since December 2024. This new activity which follows the successful completion of a four year drilling programme in 2024 is expected to boost oil production and operational efficiency at Jubilee Field.
The upcoming activity is phased-out with the first beginning in May 2025 with additional activity scheduled for November and continuing into 2026. Under the previous project, Tullow delivered 5 new wells (three producers and two water injectors) that were brought onstream at an approximately six months ahead of schedule without any incident on the safety of its workers.
The managing director of Tullow Ghana, Jean-Médard Madama, celebrated the progress the company has made calling it “an exciting moment” for them. He said, “The restart of drilling reflects another milestone in our journey in Ghana and shows our confidence in the country’s resource base. Even as the field matures, we are confident in its capacity to deliver value—for our shareholders, partners, and the people of Ghana.”
Tullow and its partners have officially been working on the jubilee field since 2009. It represents Tullow’s key asset and generates significant high-margin oil production for the Group. However, in its ‘matured’ phase, the Jubilee field remains critical for key stakeholders within the sector and Tullow is optimistic its new campaign will unlock more value.
