
Ghana’s Parliament stands ready to receive the Minister of Finance Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson on Thursday, July 24 for a mid-year review of the 2025 Budget of the Government. The presentation which is in fulfillment of law in accordance to Section 28 of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), provides an opportunity to the government to render account on the performance of the economy in the first half of the year and give updated forecasts for the economy. The finance minister will also review the government’s first half revenue, spending and borrowing since the main budget was approved by Parliament in March this year; ask for a supplementary budget if necessary.
Dr. Ato Forson’s mid-year review statement on Thursday will be his first since he took office as Minister in January. It will also mark a seminal period in his career as a legislator and finance minister who made a commitment to the Ghanaian populace to stabilise the exchange rate, reduce inflation and create jobs; full statutory payments made to the District Assemblies Common Fund, Ghana Education Trust Fund and the National Health Trust Fund following their decapping. In addition to that, the minister will announce on the floor of the House the International Monetary Fund’s recent disbursement of about $370 million following the Executive Board’s approval of Ghana’s fourth review of the ongoing ECF programme.
Ahead of his presentation, Dr. Forson has been meeting with various stakeholders to hear their concerns as part of the economic recovery efforts. In the weeks prior, he has met traders, industry leaders and parliamentarians which final consultation was held on Tuesday at Parliament House.
