Minimum Capital Requirements for Financial Institutions in Ghana

Class I Banks – GH¢120 million [If foreign owned, 60% of capital must be brought into Ghana]

Class II Banks – GH¢60 million [If foreign owned, 60% of capital must be brought into Ghana]

(Note that from December 2018, banks are required to have a minimum paid-up capital of GH¢400 million)

Rural Banks – GH¢150,000

Savings & Loans Companies – GH¢7 million

Non- Bank Financial Institution (Mortgage and Leasing Company) – GH¢10 million

Non- Bank Financial Institution (Money Transfer Company) – GH¢7 million

Microfinance Companies (deposit-taking or not) – GH¢2 million [of which 75% must be in liquid assets]

Financial NGOS – GH¢300,000 [Minimum Owner’s Contribution]

Credit Reference Bureau – GH¢500,000
