StanChart highlights importance of technology with FinTech Festival

The Standard Chartered Digital Banking, Innovation and FinTech Festival is set to highlight the importance of Fintech not only in the banking space but also the economy as a whole. The 2-day festival, which kicks off today, November 3, 2021, is being held under the theme, Shaping the next phase of Ghana’s Financial Technology Landscape for the 21st Century.

Key attendees of the event will include the Vice President, Dr Bawumia; Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr Addison; Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta; Communications Minister, Hon. Ursula Owusu Ekuful; Standard Chartered Bank Ghana CEO, Mansa Nettey; Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria and West Africa CEO, Lamin Manjang; and Board Chairman of Standard Chartered Bank Ghana, Dr Emmanuel Kumah. The event, which is in collaboration with the Bank of Ghana and SC Ventures, will be held at the Kempinski Hotel, Accra.

Fintech refers to technology which improves, automates or enhances the delivery of financial services to either customers or businesses. The past decade has seen an explosion in the use of Fintech by both traditional financial companies and disruptive start ups. Examples of Fintech’s remarkable change in the financial landscape can be seen in the development of money transfer services (both domestic and international), payments apps, banking apps and investment apps. In fact, the need to visit a bank branch to transact business has shrunk considerably in the past few years.

By bringing together industry players, regulators, Fintech companies, technology and financial consultants, tech and finance bloggers and others, StanChart is highlighting the role that Fintech can play in a more digitalized world. The importance of this cannot be understated as COVID-19 displayed the inherent limits of transacting business solely in person.

StanChart, which is celebrating its 125th Anniversary in Ghana, has been one of the leading adopters of Fintech in the financial community and the Fintech Festival is set to be another indication of how much importance they place on it. CediTalk will be at the festival to cover the event on Twitter, and you can join the conversation with the hashtag #SCFintechFestival.
