Speaker Bagbin nominates Ahiafor, others to IPU resolution drafting committee; strengthens bilateral ties at 152nd assembly

First Deputy Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Benard Ahiafor, has been endorsed to serve as a member of the IPU’s Resolution Drafting Committee. He was endorsed by members of the African Geopolitical Group following a nomination by Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament and President of the African Geopolitical Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

Rt. Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin also nominated the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of South Africa to the Committee. Both nominations of Mr. Speaker received a unanimous endorsement from members of the African Geopolitical Group, reflecting strong confidence in their leadership and contributions.

Meanwhile, Rt Hon Bagbin held a series of bilateral meetings with delegations from Australia, Algeria, Belgium, Canada, Côte d’Ivoire, the Kingdom of Morocco, Qatar, Turkiye, and Ukraine on the sidelines of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Istanbul. The high-level engagements focused on strengthening economic cooperation, enhancing parliamentary diplomacy, and deepening collaboration in key areas including trade, investment, and regional development. Discussions also underscored the importance of African solidarity in addressing shared challenges such as security concerns, economic resilience, and sustainable development.

These engagements reaffirm Ghana’s commitment to fostering strong international partnerships and advancing collective efforts toward peace, stability, and prosperity across Africa and beyond.
